ICC announced record numbers during 2019

On the 15th of July 2020, the International Court of Arbitration (ICC Court) of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has published its full dispute resolution statistical report for 2019. 

Prior to the publication, they´ve announced record figures: in 2019, the ICC Court registered a record number of 869 new cases. 851 of those cases were administered under the ICC Rules of Arbitration, involving parties from 147 countries and independent territories, and arbitrators from 89 jurisdictions. ICC acted as appointing authority in 18 cases

Furthermore, there has been a significant increase in the number of state and state-owned entities in ICC Arbitration over the past five years, which is another historical record: 42 states and 172 state-owned entities were parties in 20% of ICC´s new cases. Also, there has been an increase in the total number of women serving as arbitrators, making it the tenth year in a row. In 2019, the figure stands at 21%, compared to 18,4% in 2018

At the end of 2019, a total number of 146 cases had been or were being conducted under Expedited Procedure Provisions (EPP). Also, the ICC Court administered 23 Emergency Arbitrator applications during 2019. In December 2019, the ICC Court celebrated the registration of its 25.000 case.
