Japan is debating about redefining rape and Donald Trump is facing new legal issues
The most relevant weekly legal news around the world have been the Brazilian justice system which is creating difficulties to the Indigenous people, the legal problems that Donald Trump will have to face, the redefinition of rape by the Japanese court, the extended period of working time that Zimbabweans are going to have in South Africa and the legal battle that Greece has win over illegal British traders.
Japan
The Japanese parliament is redefining the meaning of rape in order to change the country’s sexual assault laws as this type of cases have increased over the last decade and the perpetuators are not facing any kind of punishment. Japan is having a debate over the concept of consent as the society doesn’t completely understand what it means.
Greece
A legal battle that have last over 17 years has come to an end. Greece have recovered hundreds of artefacts and historic objects that include a bronze statue of Alexander the Great. The Greek Culture Minister, Lina Mendoni, has stated that it is a pleasure to finally obtain the artistic and cultural remains of their ancient civilization from illegal British traders.
Zimbabwe
The legal authorities of South Africa have extended the temporary reprieve of thousands of Zimbabwean nationals that are working in the country and were facing deportation. Many are undocumented due to the economic crisis of 2008 which obligated them to flee the country in order to find any kind of job to sustain their families.
United States
The ex-president of the United States, Donald Trump, is facing legal issues as he will have to face to many investigations and lawsuits against its figure. The most relevant ones are the 2020 election and the U.S. Capitol attack, which is accusing him from inciting insurrection, creating conspirations and being involved in a lot of corruption cases.
Brazil
The Brazilian justice system has given the congress more time to pass bills that restricts Indigenous rights. Many companies want the indigenous land to be converted into farms in order to gain economic benefits from the agricultural sector. This have brought the Indigenous people and sympathizers to protest against the possible new norms which have been affecting negatively the native inhabitants since the election of the far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro.
