Scandal in the NRL: Corporate Espionage and Betrayal at the Titans?
The Gold Coast Titans have formally requested that the NRL launch an investigation into an alleged integrity scandal involving their former head of recruitment, Ezra Howe, who is accused of acting as a “double agent” for the new Perth Bears despite still being under contract with the club.
According to the Titans’ management, Howe compiled a “blacklist” of nine target players — including captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui — and used confidential internal team information, which he allegedly shared with player agents. In addition, an email was reportedly uncovered containing a job offer from the Bears.
What stands out is Howe’s prior ties to coach Mal Meninga and CEO Anthony De Ceglie, raising suspicions of possible collusion. Meanwhile, the NRL, which also owns the franchise in question, has publicly downplayed the matter, while the Titans insist there are clear signs of misconduct in the league’s expansion process.
