The legal sector joins forces and donates more than 70,000 euros to the Food Bank Foundation in Madrid
---
Last November, the legal sector launched a social initiative through which 72,693 euros were raised
The initiative, organised in conjunction with the Madrid Food Bank and aimed at professionals and employees of the participating law firms, consists of the sale of shopping baskets through a website created ad hoc by the Food Bank.
In the midst of the second wave of the pandemic, a number of law firms agreed to launch the initiative with the Banco de Alimentos de Madrid under the slogan "Es de Ley: Dona".
From the outset, the campaign has been very well received by the recipients. In just 24 hours, more than 16,000 euros had been raised. Within a week, the figure was 23,000 euros, and within a month, 41,000 euros. Finally, the campaign, which ended on Saturday 23 January, raised a total of 72,693 euros, equivalent to 65,423.7 kilos of food.
This is a modest amount, but the foundation recognises the great impact of the campaign. According to Banco de Alimentos de Madrid officials, "We are deeply grateful for the initiative. This important initiative will help us to continue our work to help the most disadvantaged residents of our area in these difficult times".
The Madrid Food Bank currently supplies food to more than 190,000 vulnerable people in the Madrid region through 547 charitable organisations.
The participating law firms were Allen & Overy, Andersen, Araoz & Rueda, Ashurst, Baker McKenzie, Ceca Magán Abogados, Clifford Chance, Cuatrecasas, DLA Piper, Eversheds Sutherland, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Garrigues, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, King & Wood Mallesons, Latham & Watkins, Linklaters, Pérez-Llorca, PwC and Uría Menéndez".
