Nick Kyrgios may miss the Australian Open
With four days to go before the Australian Open begins, the tournament may be without one of the most highly-touted and, until recently, expected players. Australian Nicholas Hilmy Kyrgios, better known as Nick Kyrgios, has hit a roadblock before the start of this tournament, as he has been forced to withdraw from an exhibition match scheduled for Thursday against Novak Djokovic after suffering an abdominal injury.
The tennis player has been suffering from knee and wrist problems since he was a finalist at Wimbledon 2022. Through his own social networks Kyrgios has made known that after having an ultrasound had detected a grade 1 abdominal strain, so “unfortunately, I will not be able to play against my good friend Djokovic this Thursday,” reveals the Australian on Instagram. “I will rest and do everything I can to be able to be well for the Australian Open,” he said.
Although Kyrgios assured in an interview with the Australian radio station 7News that the injury was not too serious, it would hinder his preparations for the Australian Open 2025, which will begin on Sunday, January 12 at Melbourne Park.
After the news of the injury alarms have been raised after learning of the abdominal injury of the tennis player, since, although in principle it is expected to participate in the Australian Open, there are doubts whether he will finally do it and, if he does, in what physical condition will be able to play the first major event of the year.In the event that Kurgios is finally absent from the tournament, this would be the third consecutive year that the Australian would be absent from the Australian Open.
It should be remembered that Kyrgios won the Australian Open title on two occasions, the first in 2013, in the junior category, and the second in 2022, in doubles alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.
